I spent way too many inebriated degrees last evening over at Rider Jeden’s bunk, poised between beach and harbor gurgeward of Teacher Town. He’s one of our…more eccentric members, a math, physics, and engineering genius that long ago outstripped the patience of others to live with his sometimes-explosive ongoing experiments. He seems to enjoy spending most of his time creating theoretical–or actual–sailing design improvements. Some of what he was demonstrating to me last night seemed beyond what I thought possible in terms of stresses placed on the construction materials, but he had rambling, equation-filled explanations for my expressed concerns–none of which I really have the head for understanding, and certainly not after he’s forced three of my namesake shots on me. My last coherent memory of the visit was spending who knows how long staring at the wall opposite his harbor-view windows. It was completely covered with incredibly detailed charts of Gurge currents and fluctuations, beautifully and precisely scribed. I seem to recall he’d measured some potential long-span patterns after looking back across hundreds of years of data, though of course only the last few hundred have enough information to inspire meaningful empirical deductions.

I digress from my point, unsurprisingly given my current state of recovering mind. For my Rider friends, what sorts of alterations or enhancements do you like to Ride with, if any? For others, once you get to a certain point in your art, you feel confident enough to start experimenting with the established conventions of the technicals. How have you brought innovation to your chosen art fields lately?

They’ve argued this to tediousness over on the Mesh R-feed, so I thought I’d start a focus for discussion over here.  Most of you know the standard look of a Gurgerider’s conveyance, but we have a few innovators in our midst that like to experiment with tradition.  The latest Rider swirl has been over the recent popularity with Heyo Monkeythumbs and a few others of the double-hull ride.  Now personally, I think it’s ridiculous and probably suicidal to sacrifice that much maneuverability to get only extra speed in return.  On the other side of the hull, I concede that Andranai’s run a few days ago showed just how much extra speed the double-hulls provide if you hook in one of the large fast currents like the Upper Widowmaker or Slip 9.

I’m bored to violence over hearing my fellow Riders argue this out, perhaps the rest of you will at least have more entertaining opinions.  Please, discuss!

This is created for any Rider fans to discuss today’s Gurge run without cluttering up other posts. One of our newest Riders, Fali (lately of the Spelae and we don’t get many Riders from that region, so a bit special to us) is trying a run a bit beyond normal skill levels, with some watery acrobatics planned. The fan forum has been ablaze with speculation as to the success of this endeavor. For those of you fans, Riders, and Divers following along, Fali is making the Cliff Current run with a triple-spill shift, Jik’s Half-Dip Kick, and a random event involving a 30-angle fly planned.

We also have Rikta and Andranai on Main Current cargo runs, routine; plus Heyo Monkeythumbs trying not to scare his passengers on the Under-Rim Backwash heading out-harbor, and may they not get diverted by the Gurge.

All of Harborside is ready to celebrate the day’s runs, where will you be? I’ll start my drinking at Jyn’s but plan to circulate after full night drops.

Hey there Tajna, you and your crew were totally great about providing me a place to sleep last night. I wasn’t going to make it all the way back to the harbor without passing out next to the road. Superb party at Lucks last night, the best of which was meeting you. Maybe next time you can wake me in the morning instead of sending in the cat to do it–while she’s a fine example of a feline, I think you’d be more fun!

Just wanted to add my support to this little project you’re cultivating, I’m sure I’ll visit as regularly as I can. From what I’ve seen of your pod, I can’t imagine better mods! Fashionable and fair.
